Super Bowl XLIX (2015) - When the USA Stood Still

February 2, 2015

American Tradition

For almost half a century, for one day, most of the USA stops running.

Well except for those who have to work that day. Churches are half full, stores are sparsely populated. People are busy with preparations on what will be a day of betting, cheering, cooking, grilling, eating, drinking and watching.

Of course, some will be doing occasional beer or finger food runs, pizza and wings orders are of course off the roof, but mostly everybody is glued to the game, if not the commercials and/or the halftime show. What is this day? It's Super Bowl Sunday!

If you haven't experienced this tradition, then it's really hard to describe it. I cannot even begin to explain it, especially to people who do not know what American football is.

Super Bowl Commercials

But anyway, I was working so that's that. I did happen to catch parts of the game and a few commercials. Every year there are good ones but also the not so good ones, some memorable, some aren't. And many people tune in to rate each one.

I'm telling you some people watch the Super Bowl just for the commercials. And this commercials are expensive. Nowadays, it would cost millions for one Super Bowl ad. It's funny for some, there is not even time to go on a bathroom break because they may miss what could be the best commercial of the year.

Here's one:

"Lost Dog"

Super Bowl Half time Show

I also did catch the halftime show, which as always get mixed reviews. Personally I'm not a fan of lip-syncing but to each his own. The effects were great of course, as usual. Fireworks are almost a given, as in all American traditions. And yes, some fans also tune it only to watch the halftime show. Social media of course is ablaze with everything related to or anything hashtag superbowl. And indeed the game did not disappoint.

Super Bowl Game (Seattle Seahawks vs New England Patriots)

This year's super bowl game was for the ages, it was back and forth. It was no blow out. In fact, it was like a chess match with a lot more drama, sweat, adrenalin and emotions of course. And let us not fail to mention that it was so tightly fought, it was anybody's game with less than a minute left.

Here is a recap of the game: (Click watch it on Youtube)

Super Bowl XLIX Recap

Of course the brawl at the end was a little downer, well there were a few bad calls and a few bad plays and bad judgments but hey, nobody's perfect. Next year, there will be another Super Bowl Sunday and soon only the die hard fans will talk about Super Bowl XLIX. Of course people will still talk about the deflate gate or that fateful play at the end.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure, in a few week's time, American footballs fans everywhere can't wait for the next game.

Here's the brawl at the end:
